CBI Enquiry Demanded by Assam Public Works for 'Misappropriation' of NRC Fundscbi

Guwahati, November 28, 2019:

The Assam Public Works (APW), which is one of the original petitioners of the NRC in Assam, has written to the CBI, demanding an inquiry into the alleged discrepancies under the former co-ordinator, Prateek Hajela.

Writing to the CBI, Office of the Head of Branch, Anti-Corruption Branch, the APW alleged that "illegalities, financial irregularities has been committed in making different expenditure" during the NRC.

The APW further alleged that Hajela appointed some retired Government servants as his advisors and they were provided with new vehicles and handsome package of salary, as per information a huge corruption took place in this process.

A large number of school teachers were engaged in this process of NRC updation by the previous NRC State Coordinator Shri Prateek Hajela. However, no remuneration has been paid to them but huge money is shown to have been paid to such teachers", the APW further added, demanding

For the updation of the NRC about 10,000 Laptops had been purchased by the then NRC State Coordinator Shri Prateek Hajela at the cost of Rs 44,000 per Laptop, while such laptops cost only Rs 22,500, the APW alleged, adding that 11,000 generators were also purchased, by quoting double the price.

Moreover, the APW demanded the CBI to conduct the statutory audit of the NRC to uncover the "irregularities" in the NRC.

The APW urged the CBI to launch an investigation to "bring out the truth."
