CISF Jawan Mamud Ali Tagged as 'D-Voter' in Assam

Guwahati, July 8, 2019:

Controversy rages over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) ahead of the July 31 publication of the final draft NRC. After Kargil War veteran Mohammad Sanaullah, who was declared as 'foreigner', a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan has also been tagged as a D-voter (or doubtful voter).

The CISF jawan in question, Mamud Ali, hails from Dalagaon village under 48 no. Boko Legislative Constituency in Assam’s Kamrup district.

While talking to Inside Northeast, Ali has stated that when he was posted in Kolkata, he was summoned by the BLO who stated that a notice had arrived in his name. He was informed that a hearing had been scheduled on 6 July. He received handed notice from the BLO.

Ali says that a hearing was held near Chaygaon, where he submitted all the relevant documents. The authorities said that he would be cleared as he had all the required documents and have intimated him that his name will be removed from the D-Voter list.

"I just want to know who has included my name in the D-list. I want to take action against the person who has done this and take action against him, as it is a matter of my prestige. It is rather unfortunate that people are being unnecessarily harassed like this",he laments.

Ali reveals that he is an old-timer in the CISF, having completed 24 years in the armed forces. He is now posted in MPPS Mijya in Batura district of West Bengal.

"For the moment, I am content to wait and watch. If my name is not cleared soon, I will be compelled to take action", the CISF man says, with the hurt palpable in his voice.
