Addressing the media, the Manch said, “The Bharatiya Jananta party has been conspiring to uproot the culture and tradition of the Assamese community and thus, by amending the law that is currently in place, they are trying to give citizenship to the foreigners in Assam. This is being prepared by means of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which will give citizenship to Bangladeshi nationals on the grounds of religion.”

Alleging that the Sonowal government is lending a helping hand to this conspiracy of the Modi led BJP government in the greed for power, the Manch added, “Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed the issue of illegal migrants to be a matter of just 4 to 5 lakh people, but we refuse to accept .”
Moreover, the Manch questioned the Finance Minister on what grounds he have gave an account of "4-5 lakh Bangladeshis" in the state.
It is to be mentioned here that Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday mentioned that the Centre is preparing a new draft of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which will be drafted after discussing with all stakeholders of the society.
