Citizenship Bill will burden the country, admits Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimarycitizenship bill

Guwahati, December 6, 2019:

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary on Friday has opined that the Citizenship Bill, which seeks to grant refuge to "persecuted migrants", will create a burden for the original inhabitants, as more resources will be required to shelter the new 'citizens'.

Daimary also stated that the protected areas of Assam under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution shall also be protected from the Bill. Moreover, Daimary said that Amit Shah has assured that the other areas of Assam will be protected under the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. "If all of these promises are fulfilled, the people of the State do not have much to fear", he said.

However, Daimary also had some stern words for the committee that is responsible for submitting a report to implement the Clause, and alleged that the Committee themselves are not aware of what the people want.

However. Daimary also admitted that the Bill, which seeks to give refuge to "persecuted minorities" from neighboring countries, it is likely to create a "burden" on the nation.

Addressing the people of Assam, Daimary stated that the Citizenship Bill will come. However, it will not impact only Assam or the Northeast, but rather, the entire country, according to Daimary. "There are migrants not only in Assam, but also in all parts of the India, such as Punjab", he said.

Reacting to the opposition to the Bill, Daimary said that the Northeast is protesting the Bill because the migrants in the Northeast do not share their culture, language, or religion with the indigenous sons of the soil.
