Following the heavy rain and worsening flood situation in the State, Cotton University has postponed the admission to MA/M.Sc Programme.

In a notification issued by the Cotton University undersigned by the Academic Registrar, it was stated “this is for information to all concerned that the admission to MA/MSc programme under the Cotton Graduate category scheduled on16 /07/2019 as notified earlier has been postponed due to the worsening flood situation in most of the districts of Assam.”

The notification further added that the new date of admission shall be notified shortly.

It is to be mentioned that As per the latest updates of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), as of July 14 evening, approximately 26,45,533 people have been affected in the flood in 28 districts till date.

The Brahmaputra River is flowing over the danger level at 50.76 cm till last measured at 7 AM. According to reports, it is increasing at a rate of 2 cm per hour.

Meanwhile, NDRF and SDRF teams have been pressed into service in the flood-affected areas for search and rescue operation. 127 boats have been deployed and so far 7,833 persons have been evacuated.

As per the official statement of the ASDMA, a total of 3,181 villages in 103 revenue circles of 28 districts viz. Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar, West Karbi Anglong, Hailakandi and Dhubri districts of Assam have been affected in the flood.

Presently, 82 relief camps and 242 relief distribution centre are operational in Biswanath, Sonitpur, Baksa, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Hojai, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts with 16,596 inmates in the different districts.
