New Delhi, July 23, 2019:

A high-level Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha delegation lead by National Working President Dr. Munish Tamang called on Sudip Jain, Deputy Chief Election Commissioner at the office of Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi today to discuss D- Voter cases of Gorkhas of Assam with reference to the NRC upgradation.

In a press statement issued from New Delhi Dr. Munish Tamang said, 'The BGP delegation appraised the Election Commission of India the issues of D Voters without references either in Foreigner Tribunal or at Border Police and such persons and their descendants having failed to make into the final draft NRC and some being included in the Additional Exclusion Draft. The delegation pointed out that since such cases were not referred to the Tribunal, they were in danger of being perpetually D-voters without any avenue for redressal of their problem. Cases with supporting documents were placed seeking his urgent intervention to bring to a logical conclusion. The commission discussed the matter in-depth and assured that they would work on the matter to evolve a mechanism to address this grievance.

The Dy. Chief Election Commission was accompanied by Special Secretary Assam in ECI on behalf of the Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India whose appointment was sought in this matter by BGP while BGP's delegation also included Assam state representative and National Secretary (Youth Affairs) Shri. Nanda Kirati Dewan, National Secretary (Media Affairs) Shri. Guman Dhoj Limbu and Karbianglong Region Committee General Secretary Shri. Bimal Pradhan.

Explaining about cases brought before the Commission Nanda Kirati Dewan said, "Manju Devi's case was placed before the commission with it's RTI reply from Election Branch, Sonitpur and clearance from Superintendent of Police (Border), Sonitpur to which the Commission appraised the delegation that the Election Commission of India will examine D Voters cases without reference in FT or Border Police and issue instructions accordingly for its correction on merit basis as per laid rules".

In a meeting that lasted for 35 minutes, the BhaGoP delegation placed 6 types DV cases that reflected in the NRC up-gradation process were brought from the notice of the commission and at least one case study with supporting documents was shown.
