Guwahati, January 29, 2020:

A Delhi Court has stayed the order of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) liquidator’s instructions to vacate all the quarters by January 31 till its next hearing on February 25.

Earlier, the HPC had directed that all the quarters had to be vacated by January 31, following the move to begin the liquidation process of HPC, as ordered by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on May 2, 2019.

The Delhi court has also asked all the stakeholders, government of India, HPC’s liquidator and the Central Provident Fund Commissioner to appear in court in the next hearing.

The order has come after the Cachar Paper Project Workers’ Union filed a writ petition, apprising about the condition of the paper mills’ workers due to nonpayment of salaries, provident fund and gratuity and about the order by the HPC’s liquidator. They had urged the court to look into the matter urgently.

It may be mentioned here that the two units of HPC, Cachar paper mill at Jagiroad in Assam’s Hailakandi district and Nagaon paper mill at Jagiroad in Morigaon district, have been non-functional since October 2015 and March 2017 respectively. The employees have not received their salaries for the past 36 and 34 months.
