DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh University’s Centre of Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication chairman Satyakam Borthakur has been removed from the post following labeling of sexual harassment charges against him, a delayed report said today.
A female research scholar has alleged sexual harassment by Prof Borthakur, a professor in the Assamese department of the university.
The university has, through a notification on April 28, said the “chairmanship” of Borthakur has “ceased in view of certain allegations of harassment”, and replaced him with Prof PK Gogoi of Education department as the chairman of the said centre.
Borthakur resigned from the position today.
Authorities had, infact, asked Borthakur to step down from the chairmanship of the centre after a female employee endorsed as a witness the complaint from the research scholar which she filed with the internal complaints committee of the university.
The research scholar has also filed a police complaint against Borthakur at Dibrugarh police station.
The research scholar in her complaint alleged that she was molested by Borthakur, who is also her research supervisor, at his cabin in the Assamese department.
