The employees of Nagaon and Cachar paper mills of the Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) have called for a 12-hour Barak Valley bandh on November 22 for the government’s failure to fulfil their demands and revive the mills.
Chief convener of the Paper Mills Revival Action Committee, Manabendra Chakraborty, criticized the government for failing to fulfil promises it made to the employees of both the mills.
He said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had assured the employees during Namami Barak festival that the state government would take adequate steps to reopen the mills and release their pending salaries.
Chakraborty said people voted the BJP to power with great expectations. It is a shame that the government has failed to deliver what they promised during the elections, he said.
“We are left with no options but to call for a bandh on November 22,” he said adding ever since the closure of the mills, 38 employees died without being paid
