Ex-DGP Harekrishna Deka makes serious allegation of EVM malfunction

Guwahati, April 23, 2019:

Former Director General of Police (DGP) Assam Harekrishna Deka has made serious allegations while the process of voting is underway in four Constituencies - Gauhati, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Kokrajhar - during the third and final phase of polling in Assam.

The DGP has claimed that the Electronic Voter Machine (EVM) did not register his vote and his vote counted in favor of another candidate.

Speaking to InsideNE from outside the polling booth in Guwahati where he went to cast his vote, he said: "Where I pressed the button, it did not show there, somebody else's name came. So, I challenged...I told him (the polling officer) why it had become like this. He said I could challenge it by paying two rupees, but added that if I had made a false complaint, I would be punished for six months. I do not want to take that risk. In what manner will you prove it?"

It may be mentioned that faulty EVM and VVPAT machines have been reported across the state during all phases due to which voting was delayed in many places.
