Excelcare Hospital Concludes 'Run For Your Heart' Ahead of National Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases

Guwahati, October 17, 2019:

The Cardiological Society of India- Northeast Chapter in collaboration with Excelcare Hospitals organized a running event 'Run for your Heart' as a prelude to the upcoming National Conference on Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases - 4th CSI Cardiac Prevent 2019.

The National Conference will be held from 18th - 20th October in Guwahati.

The event 'Run for your Heart' was flagged off from Excelcare Hospitals premises at 6 am by cyclist Manjunath Nagaraj in presence of the members of the organizing committee. Nagaraj has been cycling across the length and breadth of the country (Kanyakumari to Srinagar, Gujarat to Assam) covering over 7000 km in a span of 60 days to spread awareness on organ donation.

Flagging off the event, Manjunath Nagaraj said "It is a wonderful platform to spread awareness on organ donation." He suggested that more such events should be organized to sensitize the public about the importance of organ donation. He revealed that his survey suggests that there are only 0.86 donors per million populations in India and the average waiting period for a patient to find a donor is 2 years, a huge deficit due to lack of awareness and intent

Over 200 runners registered themselves and participated in the event in the 5Km and 10Km categories.

The organizers of the event jointly suggested “This event is to create awareness on the rising incidence of cardiovascular diseases in India, particularly in the Northeast. It is important to realize that prevention is better than cure. By adopting an active and healthy lifestyle for a healthy heart, one can lower the chances of acquiring cardiovascular diseases. Events like this spread awareness and encourage people and physicians to opt for a healthy and active lifestyle".

"The 4th CSI Cardiac Prevent starts from October 18, 2019, at Hotel Radisson Blu, where over 200 faculties and 600 delegates from all over India including few renowned international faculties from the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) and USA will take part in the prestigious conference. This is the first time a national conference of such magnitude is taking place in the Northeast and it is a matter of great pride for all physicians belonging to this region." the organizers added.
