Exclusive | SEBA falls into new controversy, Sanskrit answer papers checked by non-Sanskrit subject teachersSEBA

Guwahati, March 19, 2019:

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) known for its track record of quite frankly, embarrassing anomalies, is it the consumption of answer papers of students by cows or fire in the storehouse of the answer paper of the board's examinations.

This time the SEBA board has not set new standards of craziness. There are allegations that in TC Govt Girls' HS & MP School, Guwahati Club, the answer papers of the Sanskrit subject (A+C) of the metric examination have been checked by the teachers who do not know Sanskrit.

Speaking to InsideNE, the Principal of the school denied anomalies and said, “The Assamese subject has two groups: A+B and A+C which is checked by respective subject teachers. The evaluation began on March 11 and by 11 am only A+C answer papers were brought here. But a teacher, Bijit Sharma, who was appointed as the scrutinizer alleged that some non-Sanskrit teachers were checking the A+C papers but did not give the names of the teachers.”

Meanwhile, Bijit Sarma, while speaking to InsideNE said, “On March 11, I was appointed as the scrutinizer and I went to TC School where Runumi Devi, a retired teacher of Panbazar Girls High School, was appointed as the head examiner. I repeatedly kept telling her to let the A+C (Sanskrit- Rijubharati) script be checked by the respective subject teachers because A+C paper is written by meritorious students. Only students who choose Sanskrit as an advance subject attempt the A+C papers. But unfortunately, the teachers who were appointed to check the copies were not from Sanskrit Background. When I asked the head examiner that I would not carry on my duties like this and wanted to resign from the post as scrutinizer, the Principal of the school said that I will have to give a written application which will be sent to the ISO. This is what frustrated me and I resigned from the post of Scrutinizer.”

“This whole incident has made feel very sad as this is a betrayal to the students who opted for Sanskrit as their advance subject. Moreover, due to such activities of the SEBA, the number of students of Sanskrit subject has gradually decreased. Sanskrit is the root of all languages and if these things prevail in the SEBA, the language will become extinct,” he lamented.
