A man from Sipajhar in Darrang district of Assam has filed and FIR against Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora for his alleged involvement in financial irregularities in providing party tickets in the last state Panchayat polls. Case also has been filed against the Darrang Pradesh Congress Committee president  Wahida Rahman on same charges. A case has been registered at the Sipajhar police station under Darrang district.

It may be mentioned that the Panchayat polls in Assam was held in December 2018. This election was a litmus test for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2019 general elections. The BJP had won 9,025 Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) seats out of 21,990. BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) contested this election separately. Both parties criticized each other during campaigns after rift over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. BJP was in fourth position in last Panchayat polls held in 2013.
