Former Assam CM livid with NRC update process

Guwahati (Assam), Aug 9, 2018:

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday alleged that Assam State Coordinator for NRC Prateek Hajela did not carry out update of the National Register of Citizens (NTRC) properly and his recent admonishment by the Supreme Court bear testimony to this.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Gogoi said the Congress did not have any problem pertaining to the NRC, unlike the BJP and AGP.

However, the senior Congress leader warned that, if the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was passed in the Parliament, then the NRC would be rendered useless – “nothing more than a sheet of waste paper”.
