Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metropolitan), Biswajit Pegu on Thursday announced a three days programme for the Independence Day celebration here in Guwahati city.
Addressing the media, Biswajit Pegu said that the programme for the Independence Day will kick start from August 13 with the country’s popular cleanliness drive “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”, under which the statues of the freedom fighters and prominent figures, public spots in the city will be cleaned up.
The DC also mentioned that there will be also plantation drive on the occasion of the I-Day celebration.
Different competitions will be conducted across the city including school level competitions to PG levels.
The DC also mentioned that an awareness campaign on Drug and Road Safety will be held in the city. He added that looking at the health situations, the administration has decided to engage students from Class 11 to University level student to participate in the I-Day parade.
Pegu further added that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonawal has directed the administration to arrange for free patriotic film screenings across the city for which the approach will be made to the cinema halls for the 2 pm show.
Referring to the 'Bol Bom' celebrations in the city, the DC mentioned that the district administration allotted Special Task Force to keep the entire stretch from Basistha to Shukleswar temple clean as people in their path throw plastic bottles and other waste materials in and around the city, making it dirty.
