Hagrama was heading BTC only because of BJP's "love", claims Himanta Biswa Sarmahagrama

Udalguri: Continuing his series of scathing attacks on Bodoland People's Front (BPF) President Hagrama Mohilary, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the former CEM does not have any power. Sarma claimed that Hagrama Mohilary has been heading the Council due to the "love" and support of the BJP party.

Sarma claimed that even though the residents of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) had voted the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front into power thrice, people eventually did not get the things promised to them. The Minister accused the BPF of selling "sour mangoes" to the Council's residents.

The Minister also lambasted former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and claimed that the non-Bodos are being treated as "second-class citizens."

Condemning alleged corruption practices in the BTC, Sarma said, "There are no Government jobs in the BTC. Government jobs are given are a mere signature on a piece of paper. That has become the ritual here."

Sarma appealed the people of the region to vote for the BJP to promote "peace and equality" in the region.

The Assam Finance Minister also lashed out at members of the BPF party for claiming that BTC residents shall not be entitled to the 'Orunodoi' scheme if the BPF does not come to power once again. "Yesterday, (Minister) Rihon Daimary claimed that the Orunodoi scheme benefits will not be given to the BTC residents if he does not give his sign. That is not true, nobody can deprive the poor fom their rights," Sarma said.

The Minister also questioned how people in the BTC are given government jobs. "What are the rules in the BTC? How is work carried out in the BTC? Nobody knows what goes on in this region," Sarma fumed.

"We have left no stone unturned for development in the BTC. Mohilary asked us for special packages -- we gave them that. They asked the BJP party to stay away and not contest elections here, and we did that too. However, there are many people who complain that they are not having the rights to either buy or sell land. Once the BJP comes to power, the genuine rights of the BTC will have the rights to buy and sell their respective properties," he said.
