The much awaited Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has heated up the debate in both public and political grounds seeking clear stand of the people over the Bill.
Meanwhile people are still unaware of what is going on in the processing of the Bill and the report. According to some politicians, the Bill will have no impact on the Assamese people while some others have taken to the streets claiming it to be a threat to the Assamese identity.
Speaking to InsideNE, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary clarified that the JPC is yet to submit its final report for which they will sit for one last time on January 3 at 3:00pm.
Daimary said, “The members of the JPC from Assam Bhuwaneswar Kalita and Kamaleswar Bora have informed that no amendments have been made on the Bill. Whatever the opposition has proposed as a motion against the Bill, has not been accepted yet. Since the number of members of the ruling party is more so any decision on the Bill is based on voting and no external force can influence the amendment.”
“However for any further comments we will have to wait for the JPC report.” he added.
