An adult elephant died on Tuesday morning after coming in contact with a live electric wire at Tamulpur in Assam’s Baksa district.
According to locals, the elephant was roaming in the area for the past few days in search of food. But, on Tuesday they found the jumbo dead in a paddy field.
Locals as well as forest officials suspect that the pachyderm died after coming in contact with a live electric line set up by some farmers in order to protect paddy fields from marauding wild elephants.
The forest officials are currently investigating the matter.
