Kalpana Lajmi passes away at 64

Guwahati (Assam), September 23, 2018:

Noted filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed at the age of 64 at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai on Sunday Morning.

She died of chronic kidney disease and liver failure.

Lajmi’s family informed that she was on dialysis and was  being admitted and released from the hospital on regular basic for almost three years.

Her last rites are expected to be conducted today itself.

It may be mentioned that Kalpana Lazmi had worked with Dr Bhupen Hazarika for a very long time. She was a director, producer and screenwriter. She was also known for “putting women at the centre of her stories”.

Some of her noted films were Rudaali, Daman and Darmiyaan.

The last movie she directed was Chingaari in the year 2006. The movie was based on a novel name ‘The Prostitute and the Postman’ by Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
