Manipur | Meitei Community stages massive rally in Imphal demanding ST status

Guwahati, March 3, 2019:

The Meitei/Meeitei Community of Manipur has staged a massive public rally on Sunday reiterating their demand for ST status on the streets of Imphal. The community has long been demanding ST status from the Government of Manipur.

The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has organized the huge rally as thousands have taken to the streets of Imphal West, which has disrupted life in the Manipur Capital.  STDCM, the coordinating body, is of the opinion that denying ST status to the Meiteis is similar to depriving them of their rights.

The rally will begin from THAU Ground and will last till Hatta Kangjeibung. The rally is being conducted to put pressure on the Manipur administration to include the Meitei/Meeiteis in the ST list before the election conduct.
