Massive surge in COVID-19 cases in Assam; Kamrup (M) worst affected with 145 cases in last 24 hours

GUWAHATI: Assam reported 405 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the active cases to 1587.

Two deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. The deaths were reported from Kamrup (M) and Baksa districts.

Kamrup (M) reported the highest number of 145 COVID-19 cases followed by Kamrup ® with 28 cases, Barpeta and Dibrugarh with 23 cases each.

The new cases have been detected out of 68,075 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 79 patients have been discharged today. The recoveries have touched 2,15,907 with 98.16 per cent.

The death rate stood at 0.51 per cent with 1,117 deaths.

Meanwhile, Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the districts of Lakhimpur and Dhubri with immediate effect.

The district administration has imposed restrictions on public movements, wear face masks by individuals in all the public places, places of work, offices, markets, public and private transport and to keep social distance and bans spitting in public places.

The government and non-government institutions, business places, shops, hotels, and restaurants have been asked to provide thermal scanners, sanitizers, and wash facilities at the entry points, the order read.

Section 144 has also been imposed in Sivasagar, Haildakandi and some parts of Biswanath last week.
