Guwahati, April 2, 2019:
MGVK Bhanu, former bureaucrat and Congress candidate from Tezpur Lok Sabha Constituency, has often come under fire from the saffron party candidate Pallab Lochan Das as well as Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for being an ‘outsider’ and having a name that might be difficult for the average Assamese person to pronounce or remember.
The BJP had alleged that the retired IAS officer is not the right fit for MP since Bhanu is originally from Navabupalem in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Himanta Biswa Sarma has often mocked the Assam-Meghalaya cadre of the 1985 IAS batch by saying that no one knows what the initials ‘MGVK’ stands for. In fact, it is a top trending question on Google search.
Hitting back at the BJP party, Bhanu has ‘revealed’ what the initials ‘MGVK’ in his name stand for. In the first campaign poster, Bhanu has broken down what his name stands for.
This is what his name means, according to his poster:
M – Manav Sewa (Public service)
G – Guni (Endowed with talent)
V – Voroxajugyo (Dependable)
K – Kartavyaparayan (Responsible)
It may be mentioned that Bhanu will go toe-to-toe with the BJP candidate Pallab Lochan Das in the ensuing elections. Tezpur will go to the polls during the first phase of the elections on March 11.
