Guwahati, April 26, 2020:

As many as 6000 home bound people are travelling via the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) on Sunday. E-tickets for their travel were already issued on Saturday.

The ASTC has provided around 200 night buses in two slots. These long distance buses carrying the passengers to their respective districts began their journey today at 8 AM and 11 AM.

On Saturday, the e-tickets were provided to the ones wanting to travel to the other parts of the State. The ASTC had also arranged 80 city buses in Guwahati to take people from various points to four boarding points across the city.

The district administration has assured to provide local transport in the destination district for the convenience of the travellers. It may be mentioned here that people with only valid e-tickets have been allowed to travel in these 80 buses operating in Guwahati to reach boarding points.

The transport department had also shared the passengers' list along with contact details for today's morning operation to ensure that the passengers reach their destination as per their request.

It needs mention here that the Assam Government had launched a three-day conditional movement of vehicles to help people stuck within the state to return to their homes or go to their workplaces.

Assam Health & Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier informed that 51,402 calls were placed by vehicle-owners to the DCs in Assam to allow passage to other districts.

12,206 passes were issued for travel on April 25, and 19,000 passes have been issued for April 26 and 27. A further 19,745 requests have been rejected as they did not meet the “emergency” requirement.

It may be recalled here that Sarma announced earlier this week that on April 25, 26, and 27, the Government will allow the inter-district travel for certain categories of people who are stranded amid the nationwide lockdown that will finally be lifted on May 3.
