Dergaon, September 2, 2019:

An All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Pankaj Pratim Dutta, who had joined the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA, has reportedly surrendered.

On September 5, 2018, the former AASU leader had created sensation when it came to light that the student leader had joined the proscribed outfit, ULFA (I).

After joining the ULFA, a video released by the former AASU leader had taken social media by storm.

On Sunday, at around 4 pm, Pankaj had reportedly made a phone call to his uncle, Ajit Chandra Dutta. His uncle, who is also the President of the Dergaon Sahitya Sabha, said that the youth had called using the cell phone of an OC in a Police Station from Nagaland's Mon district. He has reportedly surrendered, along with two other ULFA cadres.

It is to be mentioned here that the according to reports, the ULFA (I) has seen erosion in its ranks ever since the Tatmadaw's (Myanmar Army) crackdown against the militant outfit in Myanmar.

Moreover, numerous cadres belonging to the banned outfit have surrendered in recent weeks in bordering areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
