A retired IPS officer in Assam has filed an FIR with the police in Barak Valley alleging that two trucks, belonging to him, were illegally seized by a forest officer.
The incident occurred at Dhalai Forest Range on August 11. The retired IPS officer, Dilip Chandra Baruah, alleged that Forest Range Officer Muzibur Rahman had seized the two timber-laden trucks even though all documents, pertaining to the vehicles and the consignment, were valid.
Baruah filed an FIR against the officer with the Dhalai police alleging that the trucks (AS17B9317 and NL01K5990), carrying teak wood logs from a private plantation in Mizoram, were heading to Palashbari in Assam’s Kamrup (rural) district when they were “hijacked” by the forest officer.
He alleged that the officer had snatched away the keys and documents of the trucks and ‘hijacked’ the vehicles without following any legal procedures. He also alleged that the illegal detention of the vehicles’ crew amounted to violation of human rights.
Baruah has brought the matter to the notice of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest through a letter.
