GUWAHATI: Security has been beefed up across Assam in view of the first phase of assembly elections in the state.

The first phase of polling will be held tomorrow and will witness electors from 47 constituencies in Upper Assam cast their ballots.

A total of 375 companies, including CAPF, the police of other states, and Assam Police have been deployed to conduct free, fair, and safe polls.

Out of these 375 companies, 254 companies are from outside the state while, 101 companies are in-situ CAPF of Assam and 20 companies are Assam Police.

Phase I: 300 companies have been deployed. Out of these 300 companies, 28 companies shall be deployed for strong room duty and other L/O duties.

Phase II: 310 companies shall be deployed and out of these 310, 27 companies shall be deployed for strong room duty and other L/O duties.

Phase III: 320 companies shall be deployed, and 30 companies out of these shall be deployed for strong room duty and other L/O duties.

There are total 52 strong rooms in the state, 33,600 total polling stations.

As many as 428 zonal officers and 3164 sector officers shall be deployed in these polling stations.

All the critical police stations shall be covered by static force.

Besides, one constable and one home guard will also assist.

As per EC guidelines, sufficient COVID material has been received by the districts and shall be distributed to forces.
