The situation in Guwahati city of Assam has turned to chaos amid the ongoing discussions over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha, where it is expected to be passed shortly.

The situation in Assam is completely spiralling out of control, as thousands upon thousands of protesters have descended on the streets of Guwahati city. Many have even marched to Dispur, to seek the scrapping of the controversial Bill. In view of the volatility of the situation, many shops have even been closed down due to the protests.
Footage from the protest in Guwahati that is being extensively shared on social media also shows protesters clashing with security personnel, who have been seen charging with lathis and dispersing the crowds with tear gas shells. Blank firing has also been reported from various parts of the city.

Meanwhile, thousands of irate students from across the state have joined the protests against the Bill, after many boycotted their exams to take part in protests.
It has been reported that many students were also subjected by beatings by the security personnel amid the chaos on the streets.

"We oppose CAB" in the message that has been sent out by the people of Assam ahead of its tabulation. It has been reported that various areas such as the GS Road, Dispur, Ganeshguri, are witnessing massive protests, and the situation is turning more volatile by the moment.
Meanwhile, the Bill has been shifted to the Rajya Sabha, after it easily cleared the Lower House, with 311 ‘ayes’ as against 80 ‘noes’. Despite massive protests against the Bill in the Northeast, and most notably in Assam, the BJP majority is expected to steamroll it through the House later in the afternoon.
