Kokrajhar, June 12, 2019:

In a major breakthrough, the Serfanguri Police in Kokrajhar district of Assam detained three trucks and apprehended six persons in connection with the smuggling of fertilizer to Myanmar via Mizoram.

The three trucks which have been detained beat the registration numbers: AS-01 KC/ 5547, AS-19 AC/ 1171, and AS-01 KC/ 5557.

The trucks are loaded with a large amount of fertilizer without any document from Siliguri. According to the drivers, they were taking the trucks to Silchar initially.  The fertilizer consignments are apparently being smuggled to Myanmar via Mizoram.

A case is being registered and further investigation is going on.

It may be mentioned that concrete steps are being taken and viable efforts are being made by Assam police to prevent and check rampant smuggling of urea. Huge amount of urea, meant for the farmers of this region, are illegally being taken to Mizoram.

In the last 2, 3 months, police have been able to curb this rampant illegal process. Arrests have been made, goodowns have been sealed and check posts have been installed by the police.
