Assam’s Sibsagar district’s Rahul Gupta has scripted one of the truly remarkable and inspirational stories of the year. Defying all hardships, the ‘paan’ seller’s son has secured the 286th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam.
The youth’s father, Omprakash Gupta, runs a ‘paan’ shop in the Upper Assam district called Janata Paan Bhandar and has been elated ever since news of his son’s success reached and has been distributing sweets.
The father of eight, addressing media persons here today, said: “It was difficult to bring up eight children, but my struggles and my son’s dedication have paid off well. I am thankful to God and could not be happier.”
Rahul completed his graduation from Kirori Mal College in New Delhi and is presently pursuing his higher education from JNU, New Delhi.
It may be mentioned that 13 candidates from Assam have cleared the prestigious Combined Competitive Exams (CCE) held by the UPSC. The results of the exam were declared on Friday.
