Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), Kuladhar Saikia, said the delegation of six Trinamool Congress MPs and two MLAs from West Bengal was on Thursday prevented from going out of the Kumbhirgram airport in Silchar and not detained.
He informed that two cases were registered against the TMC lawmakers.
“They were prevented from going outside the airport as the situation is not conducive. We had informed them not to visit the place but they came,” Saikia said.
He said the two cases, registered against the TMC MPs and MLAs, were for their violation of Section 144 of the CrPC and causing injuries to two police personnel. The DGP added that so far, the TMC leaders were not arrested.
The TMC delegation is scheduled to visit Guwahati on Friday but the police have already enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the city.
