Pro-Talks United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Anup Chetia has lamented that the discussion between the Centre and the ULFA leaders are yet to reach out to the last stage.

This was stated by the ULFA leader while attending the first anniversary of the formation of the organization “Samripiti Asom” in Nagaon. It was formed after the Dhala-Sadiya brutal killing incident to maintain peace and harmony in the region.

Discussions between the ULFA and the Central Government have been going on since 2011, to reach a settlement regarding the dispute between the GoI and the militant group.
The interlocutor of the government and the rebel group, AV Mathur announced that the agreement between the two parties will be signed within the next two months.
Anup Chetia said, “We stressed the constitutional rights for the indigenous Assamese, land rights, and other protections to safeguard the indigenous community, in the discussion.”
The ULFA Pro- talks leader also commented on the high-level committee constituted for the amendment of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. He said, “The committee headed by Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma will decide the fate of the Assamese people."
The committee will have to safeguard the integrity and culture of the Assamese community, only then, the ULFA will accept its proposal. If this does not satisfy our demands or the sentiments of the Assamese community, the proposal will not be accepted.”

Commenting on the Naga Peace Agreement, Chetia also said that similar promises were made by the interlocutor to sort out the issue within two months, however, nothing has been done so far.
It may be mentioned here that the outfit’s chairman, Arabinda Rajkhowa and foreign secretary, Sasa Choudhury, were also a part of the event.'
