In what can be termed as a steep rise in gun-related crimes in Assam, a man was shot at by unidentified miscreants in Gohpur area of Biswanath Chariali district on Friday.
Speaking to InsideNe, assistant sub inspector of Gohpur Police Station, N Baruah, said, "One Jogender Shah, a fruits seller, was shot at by two miscreants while he was returning home after closing his shop”.
Baruah said the miscreants shot at Shah on his abdomen and tried to snatch his money but they could not succeed as the locals arrived at the spot on time.
Shah was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Baruah said the police were trying to trace the miscreants but as the victim was not in a position to speak, there was no clue as regards the assailants.
It may be mentioned that on October 9, deputy manager of State Bank of India (Dadara Branch), Junu Sarma, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne unidentified assailants who targeted her after intercepting her vehicle.
The police said Sarma was shot at from point blank range. She was hit on the left side of her neck.
