Upamanyu Hazarika claims BJP’s FIR against him based on ‘lie’

Guwahati, April 8, 2019:

Senior advocate and Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency candidate Upamanyu Hazarika on Monday said that the FIR lodged against him and his supporters by Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) regarding the missing of important documents is based on a lie.

In the official statement, Upamanyu Hazarika stated, “The BJP Legal Cell complaint against me and fellow colleagues for having allegedly trespassed into their empty office and stolen publicity material makes them a laughing stock. In the last one week, they have lied and got caught in the process twice; first in the case of their candidate in Guwahati, where she files a false affidavit which is enough to disqualify her even if by chance, she manages to win the elections. The second is this complaint against me in the Noonmati Police Station on 7th April 2019.”

It added, “The entire entry for campaigning in their office is recorded on video, live on Facebook and by various TV channels who accompanied me on the walking campaign from Noonmati to Bharalumukh. The complaint records that we entered their office between 1 and 1:30 am, whereas the Facebook live screenshot attached clearly shows 3:38 pm. Secondly, the video footage is explicit in showing that it is an entirely empty office with no publicity material around and the charge of theft, therefore, is self-evidently false. They have no answer to the charge I made from their empty office, that it’s reflective of their loss of support for having betrayed the indigenous people.”

Further, Hazarika mentioned, “If the BJP is opening roadside campaign offices only to accuse visitors of trespass, this only shows how far they are divorced from the people and they believe that the sole route to electoral success is only money and not popular support.”

Alleging the saffron party of incompetency, the senior advocate said, “Their candidate doesn’t even know what educational qualification and their BJP legal cell convenor, a lawyer, doesn’t even do his homework before filling a complaint. It is a matter of tragedy for the people that politics today is preserve of the incompetent and the corrupt and for which we all have to pay a very heavy price, and for which reason the indigenous today are on the way to become a minority.”
