KARIMGANJ: Days after forming an alliance government in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) with the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), Assam BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma admitted that the "victory" in the Council was anything but easy. Exceeding expectations, the BJP won 9 Seats. Later, two more elected MCLAs -- one from the Congress and one from the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) joined the party.

Addressing supporters during the saffron party's State Executive meet in Karimganj, Sarma today proclaimed that the party's formation of an alliance Government in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has ascertained that the saffron party will once again form the Government in Assam in 2021.

Pointing to the victory in the BTR elections, Sarma stated that the efforts of the grassroots-level workers of the BJP have resulted in the unlikely triumph in the previously uncharted territory.

"In 2016, we were not able to get a single Seat in the BTC. Now, after tireless efforts in ensuing years, we have been able to unfurl victory flags in each part of Assam -- from Barak to the Brahmaputra -- and today, our victory in Kokrajhar, we have finished the Ashwamedha Yajna," a buoyant Sarma thundered in front of saffron party supporters.

Admitting that the famous win the the BTR "was not easy", Sarma stated that the party's workers laid the groundwork in the grassroots and they were ably led by State BJP President Ranjeet Dass.

Lauding the BJP workers in the BTR, Sarma said that their efforts throughout the election cycle made a world of difference.

Biswa Sarma also lauded the "proactive" role of PM Narendra Modi in countering terror, pointing to the Balakot strikes as an example of his commitment to root out terror from Indian soil. "We are now living in an era when India is heading towards leading the world in several disciplines (…) When Modi won in India, Assam's BJP workers dreamt of a future when the BJP would rule over Assam and salvage the culture of the state, which has now come true", he added.

A meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state executive body is officially underway in Barak Valley’s Karimganj town in Assam on Wednesday.

Minister Sarma, as well as President Dass, have asserted that the party intends to win at least 100 Seats in the elections next year. After resolving to dump the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), the party is now left with only one ally -- the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
