Assam Police, in a major breakthrough, have arrested a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) trained cadre from Assam’s Barpeta district on Wednesday.
The JMB cadre has been identified as Azhar Ali alias Azharuddin Ahmed alias Azharuddin Ali (25). He hails from Rowmari Pathar village under Tarbari Police Station in Barpeta.

The JMB cadre was listed among the ‘wanted’ cadres of the militant group and the police registered a ‘suo moto’ case against him with case no 1/2014 U/S 120 (B)/121/121 (A)/122/123 IPC R/W Sec 10/13/16/18 (A)/18 (B)/20 UAP act and 4/5 ES Act.
It may be mentioned here that the accused was absconding for the last five years and was finally arrested by Barpeta Police.
In an official statement, Barpeta SP, Robin Kumar stated, “We had been tracking him for a very long time but he was outside Assam. We got an intelligence report that he was heading to Barpeta. Accordingly, an operation was conducted and he was arrested.”

He was also ‘wanted’ in Batpeta Police Station under Case No.1557/19 US 121/121(A)/123 IPC, R/W SEC 25 (1-A) Arms Act and Sec 10/13 UA(P) Act.
He was produced in the court and has been given seven days’ police remand.
