Assam: 11 including one minor injured in Cachar's brick kiln explosion incident battling for life

After a horrific incident at Assam’s Kalain area under Cachar district where 5 died following the explosion of a brick kiln, 11 others who were injured in the incident are now battling for their lives.

Among the dead was a five year old Shamim Ahmed and Iman Abu Sufiyan, the youngest among those killed in the brick kiln chimney collapse. Apart from Shamim and Sufiyan, the other three who died in the incident have been identified as Sufiyan, Ashraful Islam Laskar (14 years) of Bhangarpar area of Cachar and two labourers from Bihar, 45-year-old Sunil Paswan and Medni Paswan.

The incident took place on Friday, December 2, afternoon. In this incident, Tajmul Hussain, Sunil Kumar, Gaurav Mahato, Shahnul Islam, Dilwar Hussain and many others are undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College. As many as 11 people were reportedly injured in the incident.

It is reported that it an opening ceremony of the brick kiln site was held on December 2 followed by a religious ceremony. It is alleged that the owner Altaf Hussain and the manager of the brick kiln site were untraceable following the incident.  Apart from this, the employees of brick kiln also fled from the spot. The incident has created a shocking situation as well as a furore in the entire Kalain area.

A police team including DIG south Assam province and circle officer of Katigara reached the spot. They have begun an investigation to ascertain the cause behind the incident.
