Assam: Dhubri crime unit seizes contraband tablets, cough syrup near medical college, one held

The Dhubri District Crime Unit apprehended a suspected drug peddler and seized a large quantity of contraband tablets and synthetic cough syrups during a raid conducted near the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital on Sunday, May 24 evening.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs regarding alleged narcotics-related activities in the area. A police team conducted a targeted raid at a residence located adjacent to the medical college under the supervision of Dr. Anup Jyoti Borah, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Dhubri.

During the operation, police apprehended the suspect identified as Anwar Hussain, a resident of Jhagrapar area. A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of 1,260 contraband tablets along with a large number of cough syrup bottles containing suspected narcotic formulations. Police also recovered cash amounting to Rs 20,000 from the location.

The accused was taken into custody and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and distribution network linked to the seized contraband substances.
