Assam: Durand Cup 2025 Trophy displayed with grandeur in Kokrajhar amidst massive gathering

The trophy of the 134th edition of the Indian Oil Durand Cup was ceremonially showcased at the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar on Tuesday. The event set the tone for the upcoming tournament, scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 16, 2025, across five cities — Kolkata, Shillong, Imphal, Jamshedpur, and Kokrajhar.

The grand ceremony was attended by Assam's Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa, who underscored the significance of the Durand Cup in nurturing football talent and fostering unity through sports. She was joined by State Minister UG Brahma, Member of Parliament Jayanta Basumatary, and Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding of the Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army.

The event also witnessed the presence of BTC Executive Member for Sports and Youth Welfare Daobaisa Boro, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, MLA Lawrence Islary, Major General Robin Bawa, YSM of the Red Horns Division, and Major General Rajesh Arun Moghe, VSM, Vice Chairman of the Durand Cup Organising Committee.

Organised by the Indian Army, the Durand Cup is not just Asia’s oldest football tournament but also a prestigious symbol of camaraderie and competitive excellence, blending India’s military tradition with the rising wave of football fervour.

Kokrajhar, fondly known as the City of Peace, will be hosting the tournament for the third consecutive time, with matches scheduled at the SAI SAG Centre. Four teams — Bodoland FC, Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC, ITBP Football Team, and Punjab FC — will participate in the Kokrajhar leg of the tournament.
