Assam government to set up model school at the site of demolished Madrassa: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 5 said that a model school will be set up at the site of the demolished Madrassa from where one teacher was arrested for his alleged connection with jihadi groups.

“The district administration with the help of the locals carried out a demolition drive at Bongaigaon Jogighopa’s Kabaitri Markazul Maa Arif Madrassa on August 31, 2022. Whatsoever, few were unhappy following the incident. But as I have come before the public today, if they allow then our government will construct one model school in place of this Madrassa which will have classes from Nursery to 12. The public too want to put forward their suggestions with respect to subjects which the district commissioner will be taking up. We wish to construct a school here from where bright students are produced who can later take up professional careers such as doctors and engineers,” said CM Sarma while speaking to the media in Bongaigaon.

CM Sarma additionally stated with respect to the number of Jihadis arrested in Assam, “There is no place for Jihadi in Assam and not all are jihadis. I believe if we talk to the public and make them understand the consequences of becoming jihadis, then they will themselves bid farewell to all jihadis from the state. There are few elements who after entering the community try to break the peace and harmony of the society. Now today when I say that if we construct one model school here, then the society will get the direction to head towards a bright future.”

It needs mention here that on August 26, a teacher named Mufti Hafizur Rahman of Kabaitri Madrasa was arrested for allegedly carrying out jihadi activities inside the educational institution. Following his arrest an the eviction drive was initiated where the Madrassa was demolished by the district administration.

Sarma interacted with the managing committee of the Madrasa and put forward the government’s plan to set up a model school.

Speaking to the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Badruddin Ajmal is like a mosquito below the net and we did not have to so much discussion to kill a mosquito under the mosquito net."

Referring to the law as the mosquito net and Badruddin Ajmal as the mosquito, the chief minister said that the law will take action whenever it wants to.

The chief minister said this in response to a question from reporters about Badruddin Ajmal's arrest.
