Assam: Manas river erosion devastates Bongaigaon, residents urge immediate action

Severe erosion by the Manas river has ravaged Lattibari in the third block of Abhayapuri South assembly constituency in Bongaigaon district. Hundreds of homes, lands, and properties have been submerged, leaving residents in distress. The relentless erosion has already claimed most of the village, forcing many to abandon their homes and relocate.

Local residents fear the complete disappearance of Lattibari, with educational institutions, mosques, and other vital infrastructure under threat. Despite the escalating crisis over the years, no permanent measures have been taken by the government or public representatives to mitigate the erosion.

The community is urgently calling on Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika and the local MLA to implement long-term solutions to prevent further erosion and safeguard the remaining structures and lands.
