Assam: Young carpenter killed in wild elephant attack in Kaliabor

The recurring human-elephant conflict in Kaliabor has claimed yet another life, deepening concerns among residents living in the vulnerable forest-fringe areas. The tragic incident occurred late at night in Nam Kamakhya village, where a wild elephant fatally attacked a young villager.

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Bhuwan Bordoloi, also known locally as Dhoon Bordoloi, who worked as a carpenter to support his family. According to local reports, Bhuwan stepped outside his house to drive away a herd of wild elephants that had entered nearby paddy fields when one of the elephants suddenly charged at him. He died on the spot due to the forceful attack.

For weeks now, multiple areas including Rangalu, Chikoni, Majgaon, Jawkata, Mathowkhat, and Nam Kamakhya have been grappling with frequent elephant intrusions, putting human lives, crops, and livelihoods at serious risk.

Residents have urged urgent intervention from forest authorities and the government to mitigate such incidents and ensure the safety of the affected population.
