Beacon privilege? Meghalaya police ask if whole family is now ‘MP’: Rakibul Hussain's son fined
Police in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district have fined Tanzil Hussain, son of Assam Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, for misusing a flasher light on his vehicle, officials said on Friday, November 13.
The car, registered in Tanzil Hussain’s name, was intercepted during a routine checking drive at Umling on Thursday night. Officers found a flasher light fitted to the vehicle and initiated a detailed inspection.
Upon verification, police confirmed that the flasher was being used without any authorisation, violating government protocol. The light was dismantled on the spot, and a fine was imposed.
Ri-Bhoi Senior Superintendent of Police VS Rathore, who led the operation, warned that misuse of official symbols would not be tolerated. “Is the MP sitting inside the vehicle? If the MP is there, it’s a different case, but he is not. You are misusing the privilege. Has the entire family of the MP become MPs now?”
Rathore remarked as the beacon was removed. Officials said the action was part of an ongoing crackdown on unauthorised use of flasher lights on vehicles in Meghalaya.
