BPF rules out pre-poll tie-up with BJP ahead of 2026 Assam Assembly Polls

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has formally ruled out any pre-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. The declaration came from BTC Deputy Chief and senior BPF leader Rihan Daimary during a party victory celebration held in Gohpur’s Karai Guri area.

Addressing party workers, Daimary stated that the BPF would maintain complete independence going into the forthcoming polls.

“BPF will not enter into an alliance with any political party before the election,” he said, adding that post-election cooperation would depend on which party secures a majority and demonstrates a commitment to the development of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

Daimary also addressed ongoing debates around granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities in Assam. He clarified that the BPF would not object to their inclusion as long as existing tribal communities are not adversely affected.
“We have no objection if the rights of current tribal groups remain protected,” he stated.

Commenting on the recent attack on the BTC Secretariat, Daimary alleged that individuals associated with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) were involved. He appealed to the Assam Government to take strict legal action against those responsible for the incident.

The event saw the presence of several senior BPF leaders, including Dhanashiri constituency Executive Member Fais Muchahari and Chairman Tridip Daimary, along with other party workers and supporters.
