CM's statements on Zubeen Garg's case inconsistent, creating confusion: MP Rakibul Hussain

Dhubri Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain on Saturday, December 6 launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging inconsistency and political opportunism in the state government’s handling of the investigation into the sudden death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Speaking to the media after addressing a youth gathering in Lengtising under the Srijangram Assembly Constituency, Hussain said the Chief Minister’s shifting statements on the case have caused “deep hurt” among BJP’s own committed workers. “One day he says it is not a murder, another day he calls it a murder. Sometimes he announces a date for the SIT chargesheet, and now says the chargesheet will not be submitted yet. Such contradictory remarks have shaken the confidence of BJP workers,” he claimed.

The Congress MP further alleged that CM Sarma’s position within the BJP is “no longer stable,” accusing him of attempting to strengthen a regional party to gain leverage over the central leadership. “He wants to build influence so he can blackmail Delhi later,” Hussain alleged.

Criticising what he described as the government’s promotion of “foreign culture,” Hussain said these actions were hurting the sentiments of thousands of Zubeen Garg’s admirers across Assam during a period of emotional sensitivity.

He also condemned the Chief Minister’s recent remarks about Gaurav Gogoi, alleging that CM Sarma showed “a concerning mindset” by commenting on Gogoi’s presence at home on the first death anniversary of his father, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. “Such remarks reveal a mentality that we strongly disapprove of,” Hussain said.
