Tezpur University students continue overnight sit-in, vow to fight until accountability ensured
The unrest at Tezpur University escalated further as students continued their indefinite lockdown for the second consecutive night, enduring the winter cold while staging a sit-in protest inside the campus.
Makeshift tents have been erected near the university main gate, where hundreds of students reportedly stayed awake through the night in a display of collective defiance.
The move follows the university-wide shutdown announced a day earlier, with complete backing from professors, employees, and administrative staff—marking the most significant escalation in the 69-day-long agitation so far.
With the main entrance sealed and all activities suspended, the atmosphere across the campus remains tense. Protesters have issued a clear message with their University Lockdown agitation: no classes, no movement, no entry, and no compromise until their concerns are addressed.
The unified student body has placed four uncompromising demands before the authorities:
Immediate presence of Finance Officer Braja Bandhu Mishra
Immediate appearance of Chief Executive Engineer Jadav Chandra Nath
Urgent intervention by the Union Ministry of Education
Appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor to ensure stability amid the ongoing investigation
Student representatives have declared that the lockdown will continue indefinitely until each demand receives concrete action, asserting their determination to safeguard transparency and institutional integrity.
