‘Who is organising Post Melone event?’ Gaurav Gogoi questions government silence on Zubeen Garg case
Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief Gaurav Gogoi on December 6 raised concerns over the Post Melone musical event, stating, “First, I want to know who is organising the event. The date was fixed for the 8th, but the Chief Minister has not been able to finalise when Zubeen Garg will get justice.”
Gaurav Gogoi addressed a gathering on December 6, during his Dibrugarh visit, where Indian National Congress launched its campaign for the upcoming 26th Assam Assembly elections in the presence of senior party leaders including Pradyut Bordoloi, Pranati Phukan, Prithvi Majhi, and Pawan Singh Ghatowar.
Alongside the press conference, the party’s state representatives announced that they will meet with nearly 60 ethnic community organisations across Assam to engage with diverse groups ahead of the elections.
Addressing the gathering, Gaurav Gogoi outlined the party’s strategy, stating: “From Dibrugarh, the Indian National Congress is launching its plan for the upcoming Assembly elections. Currently, Assam is being ruled like a monarchy. In Dispur, the king rules as he pleases. But we do not want to be kings; we want to be with the people. Congress, divided into five groups, will work across Assam to understand the problems of the people.”
On alliances, Gogoi said that decisions will be made soon after consultations with party members and the public, emphasising that proposals will be finalised based on these discussions.
Addressing the issue of granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six OBC communities in Assam, Gogoi criticised the current government, saying it had failed to provide a strong framework. He added that everyone should be able to submit tribal reports without any obstacles.
On cultural initiatives, Gogoi raised concerns over the Post Melone musical event, stating: “First, I want to know who is organising the event. The date was fixed for the 8th, but the Chief Minister has not been able to finalise when Zubeen Garg will get justice.”
Speaking on the Vrindabani costumes, Gogoi added: “If the government can provide the costumes for elections in advance, they should be kept in our Barpeta office for a few days.”
Gogoi further emphasised that Congress would awaken awareness across Assam and launch its electoral campaign with the slogan: “People’s Congress at the feet of the people.”
He also highlighted that the government would accept online complaints, and that the party has set up complaint boxes across Assam to allow citizens to submit grievances and suggestions directly.
