Darmanagar SDPO Rajib Sutradhar informed that the cannabis consignment was seized from a truck with a Haryana registration number from the Churaibari check post at the Tripura-Assam border.

He further added that the driver of the truck, that was being used to transport the consignment, has been detained.

It may be mentioned here that cannabis smuggling continues to be a common phenomenon in Tripura.

In a sensational incident in July, the Tripura Police destroyed a total of 6,300 kg of marijuana in RK Nagar yesterday. The marijuana that was destroyed is worth Rs 3.15 crore in the market.

The marijuana was burnt under the vigil of High-Level Drug Disposal Committee and as per court’s order. The state government had taken a massive drive against drug mafias in the state and is working towards a ‘Nasha Mukt Tripura’.

The drugs were accumulated from four police stations — Udaipur, Dharmanagar, Kalam Chora and Melagarh seized by the police personnel in the last few months.
