CBI Arrests Assistant Commandant of TSR in Journalist Murder case

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday evening arrested a Tripura State Rifle (TSR) official in connection with Journalist Sudip Datta Bhoumik's murder case.
The arrestee has been identified as Swarupananda Biswas, who is presently posted at third battalion TSR as an Assistant Commandant. CBI officials refused to say anything at the time of the arrest.

However, sources said that a three-member team of CBI came to Agartala a few days ago and interrogated several people. And lastly, they arrested one on Wednesday evening.
It is to be mentioned here that journalist Sudip Datta Bhowmik was shot dead on 21 November 2017 allegedly by a jawan of the 2nd Battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) in Tripura's RK Nagar. He was working with a local Bengali daily.
At the time of Sudip Datta Bhaumik's murder, Swarupananda Biswas was posted at the second Battalion TSR headquarter at RK Nagar.

After the killing of the scribe, different journalist bodies of Tripura demanded a CBI probe in this case. But the then left front government formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. Later while BJP came to the power in Tripura they handed over the case to CBI in March 2018.
