President of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and former Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling appealed the people of Sikkim to stay united as the state is under threat.
The former Chief Minister in a letter stated, “Our state at present is going through a tough time of transition. Our peace and security, which we so greatly value and which we are so proud of, is under threat. We are getting to witness lawlessness and turmoil that were unheard of in the last 25 years. These are testing times for all of us, and we have to overcome it unitedly. I am with my beloved ‘Sikkimey janta’ forever fighting for their rights; and you too have to be with us to protect our security and pride of being Sikkimese.”
He also added in his letter, “I am sure our mothers and sisters will agree with me that we always protected your homes, your daughters, husbands and sons. We ensured that none of them had to suffer any form of violence. Rule of law formed the very base of our governance. Our women folk should therefore be ready to fight for Sikkim and be our co-partners in bringing back the dignity and honour of Sikkim.”
Pawan Chamling further mentioned that he has already met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, apprising them about the situation in Sikkim.
He also assured to visit different constituencies and meet and interact with the people of the state.
It may be mentioned that Chamling's SDF party was ousted by the PS-Golay led SKM party in the 2019 elections. Golay has been appointed the new Chief Minister of Sikkim
