NEW DELHI: As many as 1.6 crore Indians have not been administered with the second dose of COVID vaccine yet, a report by the Health Ministry said.
With the third wave of COVID-19 knocking at the door, it is imperative that the citizens must get themselves vaccinated.
Contrary to that, the report by the health ministry shows concerning figures as many are yet to get their second shot 16 weeks after their first shot.
Earlier in May, the central government had increased the gap for Covishield doses to 12-16 weeks.
The number of people who are eligible for their second COVID shot after 12 weeks and are yet to be fully vaccinated stands at 3.9 crore as per the government data.
Out of the total 12.8 crore people, only 11.2 crores have been vaccinated with the first COVID vaccine on May 2 have received their second dose of vaccine, the data says.
Overall, in the 18+ population, 48% have got at least one shot, but only about 14% who have got both.
